Since it’s founding in 2011, Emancipate North Koreans (ENoK) has raised awareness of human rights in North Korea and the struggles faced by North Korean defectors around the world, led fundraising efforts for the benefit of North Korean defectors, and launched programs specifically tailored to meet the educational needs of defectors in the United States. Based out of South Side Chicago, ENoK currently operates a college-preparatory boarding school for North Korean defectors residing in the United States with the aid of volunteer tutors from around the Chicago area. In addition, we connect with defectors around the country to provide them with free, customized tutoring services over Skype.
We are a small, dedicated group of individuals united by a passion to be true friends to North Korean refugees struggling to begin new lives in the United States and in other parts of the world.
Our mission is to:
EMBRACE North Koreans
To help break down barriers between North Korean defectors and “others”
EMPOWER North Koreans
To help North Korean refugees transition to their new society and life through life-support programs such as life-skills training, job training, and education
EMANCIPATE North Koreans
To raise awareness of dire situations and human rights violations being committed in North Korea as well as the plight of North Korean refugees scattered across Asia
